Dear Peter:
\JThings seem to be going pretty well on the book front. I'm
enclosing a review I saw in the LISP Bulletin. Also I've been told that the
Stanford Bookstore has sold out. Finally I got a quick, informal review
from Dan Friedman at Indiana; he was pleased with the book, finding only
some inconsequential typos, which are easily remedied. I've been talking
with people from Australia, France, Germany, England, and Italy (one
of the many benefits of the Stanford AI Lab). Most say that
their local McGraw-Hill reps have no information on the book.
I would heartily suggest
that your foreign marketing people initiate an active campaign; the market
is there. I also know that Japan is a very large LISP market; several universities
and industrial research operations are heavy LISP users.
I am still negotiating with several firms about a position; the wait has been
very expensive. Could I (sigh) get another $1000 advance on my royalites?
I was hoping that such a request would not be needed; at this rate it will
be five years before I see a "real" royalty check!
By the way congratulations to your camera man! Several people have remarked
about the excellent reproduction from the XGP; at least one book produced on the
new higher quality Xerox printer has a much poorer appearance.
